En las últimas seis décadas autocracias y dictaduras militares fueron derrocados en varias partes del mundo y se dieron los primeros pasos hacia la democracia. Sin embargo, la transición es difícil y no siempre está garantizada. La creciente tendencia al aumento del autoritarismo - como una alternativa a la democracia - ha ganado impulso.
